What is biodiesel?

Biodiesel is a natural and renewable domestic fuel alternative for diesel engines made from vegetable oils. It contains no petroleum, is non-toxic and biodegradable.

How is biodiesel made?

Biodiesel is produced through a process in which organically derived oils are combined with alcohol (ethanol or methanol) in the presence of a catalyst to form ethyl or methyl ester.

Our process works superbly with either UCO (used cooking oil) or virgin oil to produce superb, legal, standards quality biodiesel without using any water or generating waste.

Many people believe that because the biodiesel process is simple, that it requires no effort to make legal biodiesel. Wrong. Like all chemical reactions there is a good way and a bad way of making that reaction occur. Our process is amongst the most effective in the world.

What standards apply to biodiesel?

The legal definition of biodiesel in the UK is that it is a diesel quality liquid fuel that is produced from either biomass or waste cooking oil, which has an ester content of at least 96.5% by weight and sulphur content which does not exceed 0.005% by weight or is nil. What this means is that unless your biodiesel process is converting OVER 96.5% of the input vegetable oil to biodiesel, you are not making biodiesel. If a product does not meet all aspects of the definition it is a fuel substitute and will attract a higher rate of duty.

Our biodiesel system almost always produces conversion rates of over 98%. We also provide you with a simple way of checking this conversion ratio.

Why use biodiesel?

Biodiesel burns clean, which results in a significant reduction of the types of pollutants that contribute to smog and global warming and emits up to 85% fewer cancer-causing agents.

Biodiesel has been rigorously and independently tested in virtually every type of diesel engine by a number of agencies in the laboratory and on the road. Tests combine to account for over 50-million street miles plus intense off-road and marine use. Performance is said to rate comparably to petroleum in all areas.
